Sabbath

A weekly appointment with our Creator

As humans and as Seventh – day Adventists, we owe it a duty to meet God, the Creator of the universe every Sabbath to worship and reverend Him for His wonderful love, protection, guidance and care for the six days of work.

Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made” Gen 2:3.

God invites humanity to share in His day of rest on the Sabbath which falls on the seventh day of the week. This divine invitation is seen in the book of Exodus 20:8-10 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals nor the alien within your gates

The Sabbath is only remembered when humanity keeps it holy and when it is kept holy, it is then that humanity enjoys the fullness of the abundant blessings God has ushered in His day.

The Sabbath is a day off to forget about the hassles of the six days of work and to reflect about God’s wonderful creation. This weekly appointment with our creator is a happy moment which we wouldn’t have to wake up around 4:00 am as we do within the six days of work hassles. It is a time where we cast all our burdens on Jesus Christ, worship Him and reflect about His creative power and His abundant love for humanity. In the Sabbath day, we grab and echo the sweet promises of our Lord and saviour Christ Jesus.

“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither” – Alan Cohen
